From 2017-2019, I worked on the Learning and Marketing teams for Lingo Live, a language and communication coaching company.
As with any startup, my position was a hybrid role, rich in complexity—which basically means “I did a lot of shit.” My official title was Head of Learning Program Development, which was primarily compromised of the following job functions:
- Managing Editor of the blog, Communication Matters: Managing a monthly editorial calendar that showcased the thought leadership of the company’s full-time employees and leveraged the expertise of their language and communication coaches. Optimizing blog posts for SEO without compromising quality.
- Newsletter Writer & Editor, Lingo Lifestyle: Producing high-quality, engaging newsletter content and copy to drive desired user behaviors, delivering critical product and tech documentation to users, cultivating a brand community, and promoting in-house learning resources.
- Social Media Manager of all company social platforms: Managing a monthly social media calendar and wrote copy for social media posts across Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn promoting their learning program, organically promoting content.
- Curriculum Writer and Editor for the learning program: Analyzing trends in language learner interests and transforming that knowledge into a data-driven, accelerated curriculum with subject matter categories, curated task modules, measurable learning objectives, and a branded e-catalog of all in-house resources.
- Copywriter and Marketing Manager for the marketing team. Controlling all of the communication and brand messaging internally and externally. Translating complex academic theories of learning into promotable and sellable copy that clearly articulated our product differentiation.
WHAT I’m Most Proud Of
I’m not gonna beat around the bush or underscore my accomplishments: I did a lot of damn good work. I kept the blog posting consistently, social media accounts active, and developed a learning program into a data-based curriculum with a resource library of +500 materials.
What I’m most proud of is writing a super fun newsletter that produced a lot of amazing, innovative content for its community. Tbh, this newsletter kicked ass.
Have you ever solved an international mystery?
Or cooked a new recipe from a cookbook with recipes from literally around the world?
Well, guess what. Now you can. Two of my most favorite newsletter pieces, for your enjoyment.
BUT IF YOU WANNA SEE SOME OTHER STUFF
The blog series featured below were close collaborations with two of my former co-workers. Based on their expertise and interests, I partnered with them to develop their respective series. I worked with them to develop a vision for the series, provide feedback and edits, and, at times, function as a ghostwriter.
Healthy Habits for Remote Workers
The first series, Healthy Habits for Remote Workers, was written by Alyssa Conley, Director of Coach Community. She was one of the first remote employees at the company and wanted to contribute thought leadership and practical advice to the growing practice of working remotely.
Developing Your Emotional Intelligence
The second series, Developing Your Emotional Intelligence, was written by Rachel Zolotarsky, Head of Product. Her experience and passion for developing EQ workshops and courses was a natural transition to creating a series dedicated to developing emotional intelligence.
